Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Do I just turn up? How do I start?

A. Starting is really easy … you do not need to be fit or know anything about Krav Maga.  Step 1 give us a call or send an email (contact us) to let us know that you are interested, Step 2 arrange a time to do an Intro Class, during our regular training times, Step 3 is pay your joining and monthly fees.  It is that simple, and you will be on your way to learning how to protect yourself and improve your fitness. There are no excuses, get started today!

Q. What happens in a typical training session?

A. A typical training session lasts for an hour. We have 5 specific Phases through this hour. The first Phase lasts for 5-10 minutes where a specific warm-up for the class is performed. For the next 30 minutes you will be taught solutions to specific self-defense problems in our Instructional Phase. Phase 3 lasts for 10 minutes, where you will improve your problem solving skills through a number of specific pressure drills for the skills/techniques learnt in the instruction phase. Conditioning is the main focus of Phase 4, where we incorporate exercises and Krav Maga techniques to increase you fitness levels. The final Phase is the cool down and stretch component.

Q.  But what if I am not very fit?

A. It doesn’t matter how fit you are (or aren’t) when you first walk in the door.  The training will be scaled down to your current fitness level, no matter how low that may be.  We don’t care how fit you are when you start, we only care how fit you are when you finish.  A lot of people think they need to “train so they can go to training”.  It is a very common thought pattern when you are out of shape.  All you need to do is turn up with a positive attitude.  The rest takes care of itself over time.

Q.  How often should I train?

A. We offer training four nights a week in Newcastle. The minimum days of training per week should be 2. This allows for the best results from your training.

Q.  What should I bring?

A. Wear comfortable clothes that you can train in and shoes that are suitable for cross training.  When you join KMN, you will be issued with your training gear. Bring a water bottle and towel.

Q.  Do women train in Krav Maga?

A. Yes, we are very lucky to a have a lot of women training at Krav Maga.  We also have a female Instructor at our classes. Krav Maga is a fantastic self defense and fitness program for women. Krav Maga produces strong, confident and healthy women.
